Superheroes and Society

Beginning with the comic book boom (1938) and lasting through WWII- superheroes have served as a comfort to society and images of perfection. Through time, however, these heroes have grown into a new breed. Rather than being superhuman, they are now super and human. These "heroes" make mistakes, struggle between good and evil, and have common human flaws. My question is why does our society want to see such flawed characters as heroes?

The purpose of this blog is to collect my research and findings, including my thought, on how superheroes effect society (and vis versa). This is a project for an honors course at UNCG called "Internet and Global Society".
