Beginning with the comic book boom (1938) and lasting through WWII- superheroes have served as a comfort to society and images of perfection. Through time, however, these heroes have grown into a new breed. Rather than being superhuman, they are now super and human. These "heroes" make mistakes, struggle between good and evil, and have common human flaws. My question is why does our society want to see such flawed characters as heroes?

Re-paint of original on left, rendition on right. Note: There are no swastika in the "new" cover.
I am really surprised by this post. I looked at the picture and did not see any swastikas but after closer inspection I realized that there are many. Why was there a rendition made? Is this issue especially important?
The rendition was made to depict what the first cover of Captain America would have looked like had it been made in today's style. Yes, actually, despite the different covers- both of these have the same content as the original issue of Captain America on the inside, ads and all :D
